Weekly Photos Here

This week during our Unit of Inquiry the students practiced reading their scripts on Sunday sitting at their group tables. On Wednesday they practiced reading their scripts and were figuring out where they would be standing and how they would be moving throughout their performance. On Monday and Tuesday the students worked on their background scenery and making their props. I sent the scripts to everyone on Seesaw last Thursday. Please have your child practice reading their lines. We have two weeks before we have our class performances and the more prepared they are, the more confident they will be.

In English this week we continued working on our phonics. Our focus has been on vowel teams. The students have learned about ai, ay, ee, ea, ey, oo, ew, ou, and oy. Due to Oman week we were not able to complete our writing recount, so that will resume on Sunday. Adjectives were introduced to the students this week and will continue next week. An adjective is a word that describes a noun. Ask your child what an adjective is. For our language review the students have learned about correct verb tense, capitalization of names and beginning of sentences, punctuation at the end of sentences, apostrophes when a person possesses an item, how to punctuate a title such as Mr. and Mrs. and using commas in a list. Next week in English we will continue working on these skills.

I hope the students had as much fun as I did during our Oman Week celebrations. Sunday we went on a field trip to the Sohar Fort. The students were able to look at the archaeological site and talk to the archaeologists. On Monday we were lucky enough to have four Omani artists come and share their knowledge of basket weaving, stitching hems for Omani dresses, the old fishing nets to gather oysters, and the weaving of twine around water flasks so they will not break. They received candy and gifts from the administration as well. On Tuesday the students got to ride a camel. On Wednesday our girls received Henna in the classroom while the boys worked on the carpet on math problems. It was such a lovely way to end the day.

Tonight is the International Food Evening and I look forward to seeing everyone there. Please come out to support the ABIS community.
