Field trip on Sunday!!! Please send the students to school with their water bottle and a snack. Snack bags should be in small bags and not their regular sized backpacks. Make sure they can carry it over their shoulders. Hats are required as they are walking around under the sun. Don’t forget to put sunscreen on your child.
Parents are welcome to volunteer their help at the upcoming field trip to Sohar Fort and the Old Souq. Meet us at the school to follow the bus or meet us at the Sohar Fort after 8:30 am. Please only send the students with no more than 5 OMR.
Students have begun rehearsing their plays with their groups. They have chosen their scenery background color. They have completed their materials list for what they need to create their props and costumes. Some students will be asking for items from home as well as making their props or costumes here. I have sent the PDF version of their script on Seesaw. You can print that out and have them practice at home.
During English this week we began writing our whole class recount about a day at school. This will continue next week. The phonics focus this week was the vowel team oo. This vowel team has two sounds. You can identify these two sounds in the words soon and book. We completed our grammar focus on verbs. Guided reading this week and the weeks to come will focus on fluency.
During math this week we used base 10 blocks and place value disks. Most students preferred using the place value disks when adding and subtracting. One student preferred the base 10 blocks. The goal is for the students to figure out which method works best for them.
Next week, during our Unit of Inquiry, students will create their props by making some by hand or bringing things from home. Please ask your children if they need anything from home that will help them. I have sent the scripts to all of you in Seesaw. Students are required to practice reading their scripts at home. This can be used as their 20 minute English reading requirement. Students will also be practicing their plays at school. They will need to figure out where they need to stand, what actions they might need to act out, and how their voices should sound.
In English we will begin our Fundations slides again and continue focusing on vowel teams. So far we have looked at ee, ea, ai, ay, and oo. Next week I will introduce the vowel teams oi and oy. For writing we will complete our whole class writing recount about a day at school. When we have finished, the students will complete their own individual writing about their weekend. For our guided reading groups students will be practicing their fluency. Students will read the same story until they can read with no mistakes and confidence. For our Grammar lessons we will begin working on adjectives.
In math students will continue adding and subtracting. Three digits will be introduced and practiced in the classroom. You can support your children’s math focus by practicing at home. Students will have the choice to use the standard method with no manipulatives, base 10 blocks, or place value disks. Ask your child what they prefer when working on their addition and subtraction.
