We hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend. Although it was a shorter week, the children still engaged in plenty of meaningful learning and play.

The children were especially excited to be on stage during today’s assembly. They showed great bravery standing in front of a large audience to present their chosen photographs, to which we added each child’s explanation of the activity they were engaged in, and to share one of their favourite songs. Thank you to all the families who were able to attend and support ABIS’s youngest learners during this special moment.

This week, as part of our Unit of Inquiry, How We Express Ourselves, the children were introduced to flamenco. They learned how flamenco brings together music—often featuring the guitar—dance, costumes, and how fans are used as an important expressive prop. We explored how flamenco fans are often decorated with flowers or patterns and how dancers use them in different ways: moving them quickly or slowly, opening or closing them, and using them to reveal or hide their faces to convey different moods such as happiness, excitement, or calm. The children then had the opportunity to paint their own paper fans. Once the fans had dried, we listened to flamenco music and moved rhythmically, using the fans as a tool for self-expression. Photographs of the children working on their flamenco fans can be seen below.

We wish you all a good weekend. Warm regards,

The KG1 Team
