Dear Parents,
Welcome back! I hope you all had a restful and refreshing holiday break. We are thrilled to welcome our students back to the music room as we embark on an exciting new term of musical exploration.
This semester, our MYP music students will be diving into diverse and engaging units that bridge technical skills with real-world creative applications. Here is what each grade level will be focusing on:
- Grade 7: Music for Advertising – Students will explore how music is used to influence and persuade. They will learn the art of creating effective “jingles” and underscore techniques, focusing on how specific musical elements can evoke targeted emotions in a commercial context.
- Grade 8: Music for Films – Our Grade 8 students will step into the world of cinema. We will be studying the history and techniques of film scoring, analyzing how soundtracks enhance storytelling, and giving students the opportunity to compose their own music for short film clips.
- Grade 9: Rock and Pop – We are excited to introduce Grade 9 to the evolution of Rock and Pop music. Students will examine the cultural impact of these genres, study standard song structures, and develop their performance skills through contemporary repertoire.
- Grade 10: The e-Portfolio – This is a pivotal term for our Grade 10 students as they focus on their MYP e-Portfolio. This involves a comprehensive process of creating, documenting, and reflecting on their musical journey, culminating in a showcase of their technical proficiency and artistic identity.
We are looking forward to a semester filled with creativity, innovation, and, of course, wonderful music.
Thank you for your continued support of our music program.
