KG2 Weekly Newsletter – Week Ahead

Next week, we will begin our new Unit of Inquiry: “Discovering the wonder of nature can foster love and responsibility for the environment.” Our focus will be on Exploring Nature Around Us.

Line of Inquiry: How exploration and interactions can lead to an appreciation of nature
Key Concept: Form

Learning Focus:

  • Children will identify basic elements of nature

  • They will use their senses to explore the environment

  • They will express their feelings about nature

Planned Learning Experiences:

  • Nature walk around the school grounds to listen, look, and feel

  • Sitting on the grass to identify sounds around us

  • Creating a classroom nature collection of leaves, sticks, and seeds

  • Nature detective play using magnifying glasses and binoculars

  • Drawing “What nature is”

  • Stories:

    • We’re Going on a Bear Hunt – Michael Rosen

    Phonics: We will focus on the g sound.

    Math: Children will explore the number 16 and begin looking at patterns.

    Other Notes:

    • There will be no swimming next week; swimming will start again when the weather is warmer.

    Important Dates:

    • Parent-Teacher Conferences: 20 Jan – Please read through your child’s report. If you have any concerns, please make an appointment. If not, an appointment is not necessary.

    • Assembly: Thursday, 22 Jan
