Dear Parents,

Happy New Year to everyone! We are back and gently easing into Semester 2 with a short week and a lovely four-day weekend ahead, which means next week will be short too. A soft landing for brains that are still on holidays!

Grade 7s started a new theme by talking about families and discovering the many different types of families that exist around the world. It is a thoughtful way to begin the term, connecting language to real life and identity.

Grade 8s held their Spider Web debate at the farm, tackling the topic of Airbnb and commercialisation. They explored how tourism can bring opportunity but also raise important questions about communities and sustainability.

Grade 9s discussed the role of schools in teaching empathy, one of our key related concepts in Language Acquisition. What school systems do we know, and how can we compare them?

Grade 10s explored migration as part of their IDU with English, linking language, identity, and global movement in thoughtful ways.

DP students are continuing their work on the environment, with a strong focus this term on grammar. This week, the passive voice was our friend, helping students express ideas in more precise and academic ways.

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up next week, so do take a look at your child’s report, and I look forward to seeing many of you soon. In the meantime, enjoy the long weekend and this gentle start to the new term.

Warm wishes,
Miss J
