Grade 1C have had another super busy week and have taken their learning from the classroom out into the real world where they made connections, did more research, stretched their thinking skills and had fun at the same time!

Last week we began to inquire into how water changes the land. We looked at different photos of landscapes which we drew as the ‘before’ picture. We wondered how water would change this landscape, then did predictive ‘after’ drawings. Students were then shown the after photo to see how well they predicted the change in the landscape. They did very well and were thinking hard to find the words to describe these changes too.

Filled with this knowledge and our understanding of different landscapes and what they are made from, we went out into the real world and applied our inquiry, observation and thinking skills to discover and explain the wadi environment. Students were in small groups and had several activities- water exploration, collecting rock and sand samples, creating a water experiment and observational drawing. They behaved sensibly and cooperatively, enjoyed the day immensely and then came back with further ideas and new knowledge.

Back in class, the students worked hard for two consecutive afternoons to create individual presentations of their work with writing, photos, drawings and some amazing craft work. Incredible commitment, creativity and thinking skills developing this week!
