Happy Thursday Roblox families !

What a joyful and curious week it has been in Grade 2! Our learners have continued to show enthusiasm, confidence, and a growing sense of independence as they explore new concepts and make meaningful connections to the world around them. In Maths, we spent time working with a variety of manipulatives to support The Roblox, in adding and subtracting with understanding. Students were able to see how numbers can move, change, and break apart in flexible ways. We also created a bar graph comparing the temperatures in Muscat and Sohar throughout the week. Students noticed patterns, compared data, and asked thoughtful questions about why the temperatures might differ. Alongside this, we continued our inquiry into length and height, engaging in several activities that helped learners distinguish between the two. It has been delightful to see students point out examples in books, in the classroom, and even in real-life situations; those moments of “Oh! I see it!” have been truly precious.

In Literacy, we focused on the EE and EA vowel teams, exploring how these sounds appear in many familiar words. Some of our students noticed how their names have the ‘ee’ in  them, which got them really excited. Students practiced identifying them in texts, sorting them, and using them in their writing. We also learned more about action words (verbs) and how they help bring our sentences to life. Students enjoyed acting out verbs, using them in their recounts, and noticing them as they read. Our ongoing guided reading sessions supported fluency, decoding skills, and reading confidence, and students continue to work on neat, consistent handwriting as part of their literacy routines.

In our Unit of Inquiry, students continued developing their research reports about homes in different biomes. They answered questions about the materials used, how families stay warm or cool, how they store food and water, and which materials they selected for their own model homes. Their ability to think like researchers, designers, and communicators is truly shining.

Looking Ahead to Next Week

In our Unit of Inquiry, we will finish building our homes and ‘complete’ our reflections on the unit. In Literacy, students will continue exploring phonics patterns, read independently and in groups, write in their personal journals, and build on their recount-writing skills. In Maths, we will continue using manipulatives and visual models to support addition and subtraction, practise chunking strategies, and model equations using tools such as arrow cards, number lines, and base-ten blocks. We will also deep dive into telling time.

I wish you all a beautiful weekend and hope it will be a restful one.
