Dear Roblox families,
What an exciting week it has been in Grade 2! Much of our time was devoted to preparing for the Winter Concert, and the students showed wonderful commitment as they built their musical skills. Their enthusiasm and confidence really shone on stage. It was heart-warming to see so many families join us; thank you for celebrating their learning with us! We hope you enjoyed seeing the outcome of their hard work and creativity.
In Literacy, we explored the Bossy R, noticing how the “r” changes the sound of the vowel beside it. This has been a bit challenging for our Roblox, but we are approaching it with curiosity and practice. Students also strengthened their writing skills, took part in guided reading sessions, and enjoyed shared and independent reading time. Please continue to support your child in reading for at least 20 minutes each day. Remember, students can access Epic until 4 p.m. (Monday–Friday) and RAZ Kids anytime.
In Math, we revisited place value, representing numbers in multiple ways using base-ten tools, equations, and visual models. We practiced adding two 2-digit numbers and some students extended their thinking by adding hundreds. We also inquired into measurement (length); students learned how to use a ruler accurately and enjoyed applying this skill around the classroom.
During our Unit of Inquiry, students labelled their home designs with materials that might be found in different biomes. Some groups began drafting their research reports by answering inquiry questions about their homes: How is our home connected to its environment? How does it meet the needs and wants of a family? It has been wonderful to see students make connections and think like young designers and researchers.
Please enjoy the photos shared here!
