Week 14 in Grade 6

Exhibition

An exciting week in our Exhibition bubble where we have really started to understand the breadth of our topics and to make connections as we explore our foundational questions. This week the focus has been on looking at our research skills as the students start inquiring into their topics of inquiry. They have been aiming to take organised notes, using a variety of sources (books, websites, videos) and taking accurate citations as they go. Students have had an opportunity to look at the database of experts and identify an expert to discuss the topic further with. They have also been learning about how to draft a formal email to reach out to potential experts from our teacher database. We have also started to look at how we can express and communicate our new knowledge. The children (below) are now trying to speak about their topics for at least 90 seconds, this amount of time will increase each week as their knowledge and ideas expand.

This Week’s Seesaw:

In this week’s Seesaw you can see your child’s reflection on their research skills, examples of how they are documenting their new knowledge (making notes and paraphrasing), as well as looking ahead to next week’s goals / targets / and ‘to do’ list.

Maths

We have started our new stand alone maths unit. The central idea is – ‘Understanding chance and data empowers us to make informed decisions and predictions.’ We have been looking at the language of chance and starting to look at chance in everyday situations. Ask your child how they did in the ‘Rock Paper Scissors’ championship and what was some of the mathematics involved in that contest.

Congratulations to Sultan B – our RPS Champion 2025!

Next Week:

Exhibition

Next week is largely dominated by lots of Arabic / Islamic Studies and Omani Studies exams, as well as preparation for the musical concert on Wednesday evening. Our focus will remain around researching our inquiries and ‘Going Deeper’. We have been using the house analogy (below). Without strong foundation knowledge, the rest of the inquiry just won’t hold up. Even though a lot of their research work might not come out in the finale of the Exhibition, it is still a vital component and one that you cannot move on from until it is completed thoroughly.

Maths

We will continue our new unit exploring chance and probability. Specifically, looking at the difference between theoretical probability and reality.

Important Dates

  • Music Concert – Wednesday 10th December at the Mazoon (starts at 5pm)
  •  PYP Exhibition Open House 2  – Tuesday 16th December, 8-9am.

Have a great weekend,

The Grade 6 Team
