This Week in KG2

This week, we had lots of fun learning about light, darkness, day, and shadows! The children explored how shadows are made by observing what happens when we shine a torchlight an objects. They noticed that as we move the torchlight, the shadow moves to the opposite side, and that we need light to make shadows. We also discovered how shadows can grow and shrink depending on where the light is.

Outside, the children had a great time finding different shadows in the playground. They observed their own shadows, noticed how they moved along with them, and even saw how their shadows could disappear under the bigger shadow of a tree. Together, we learned that a shadow always falls on the opposite side of the light source — just like the sun!

We enjoyed the story Moonbear’s Shadow, which helped us understand more about how the sun and shadows change during the day. The next day, the children built tall towers using colorful Magna-Tiles and shone torchlights on them to make new observations.

It has been a busy and exciting week filled with discoveries, curiosity, and creativity as our young scientists explored the world of light and shadows! ☀️🔦
