The culmination of our ESS Foundations unit was a fantastic success! Grade 11 students masterfully applied their knowledge of environmental perspectives, systems, and sustainability by modeling Earth as a closed system. It was truly inspiring to see your collaborative skills as you built these miniature biospheres! 🌍
This hands-on activity offers immense insights. Earth, as a closed system, exchanges energy (primarily sunlight) with its surroundings but essentially no matter. Your models highlighted this crucial concept: everything we have—air, water, minerals—is all we’ll ever have. The cycles within your closed systems mirrored the limited, interconnected resources on our planet.
Understanding this allows us to grasp the immense potential for greater sustainability. By seeing how limited factors within a closed system operate, we realize that manipulating these variables thoughtfully—such as managing waste or harnessing renewable energy—is key to securing a sustainable future for all. Great work, everyone!
Enjoy the holidays and come back refreshed.
