Weekly Photos Here

Last week classroom 2B observed the outside of ABIS. They completed a graphic organizer called, See Think Wonder. They wrote down words of what they saw or drew pictures. They wrote down what they thought of the space. And last but most importantly they wrote questions that they had about the space. These questions will lead to some of our conversations. This week we took a walk around the ABIS outdoor spaces. We then completed the same graphic organizer, See Think Wonder, based on what we saw inside our school. The next step is to compare the similarities and differences between the two spaces. Which space makes you feel happy, healthy, and comfortable.

During English this week we looked at silent e words (vce). The rule of a silent e word is that if the base word end with a silent e the vowel makes the long vowel sound. The long vowel is just like the name of the letter. We began looking at poetry. This week the focus was an Acrostic Poem. The students have used their name as the topic. They wrote short statements about themselves. These will be placed on the walls outside our classroom, if you ever come by, come and take a look. We should all be finished with our Acrostic Poem next week.

In math we have begun learning about 2D shapes. We will focus on the circle, oval, triangle, square, rectangle, pentagon, and hexagon. Students will understand that the properties of a 2D shape are sides, corners, angles, straight, and curved. Please review with your child and support them in their math journey. We are in the process of completing 2D posters to display in our classroom. The students worked in groups and labeled, colored, cut, and put shapes in order from least to greatest amount of sides. These will also be displayed in the classroom.

We will continue looking at community spaces next week. Groups will be established by the teacher. They will begin to map out their ideas of a community they would like to create. Discuss with your children and ask them what things would make them happy, healthy, and comfortable if they could create their own space.

In English we will complete our Acrostic Poems. Our next poem will be a Haiku. If you do not know what this is please research them. It would be great if you were able to converse with your child about what they are creating in the classroom. We will continue working on our daily phonics, grammar, and sentence corrections. We received our 12 iPads back from the WIDA department and centers will officially begin next week. Our centers will consist of guided reading, colorful semantics, word work, Nessy Online platform, and introduction on how to create SeeSaw posts.

In math we will continue looking at the properties of 2D shapes. We will look at number sense focusing on number bonds and place value. 2D posters will be completed on Sunday.
