It is Week 5! We are more than halfway through this term, which means students have been working on developing specific skills for their summatives.
In English, the grade 7s students have learned how to annotate a text. They then used their annotations to draft their first ever academic paragraphs – the PEEL (Point-Evidence-Explain-Link). They will apply their understanding of the conventions of a myth to an African myth and communicate their understanding of 2 conventions through 2 academic paragraphs.
In Humanities, the students have been doing their first investigation. Step 1 was to interview their parents and record key personal information. Step 2 was to look for sources of information about significant events in their home/passport countries. Step 3 was to record these sources in a bibliography. Grade 7 students struggled mightily with this but after working again in small teams with Ms. Peters they got it! Now, it is hoped that they have turned in their summative bibliographies for assessment.
This is a challenging time for Grade 7 students as they experience what it means to manage tasks and time by using Managebac to keep track of their assignments. As the year progresses, they should be getting better at time management and organisational skills.
