1. This Week in Our Learning:
• Last week, students received feedback from their diagnostic assessment and this will be shared with parents today. This week, students had their first formative assessments. On Monday, they did a practice writing in which they paired with a classmate and assessed their peer based on the rubric, providing feedback for how to improve. On Tuesday, the students did a second piece of writing. This formative task was submitted and has been returned with feedback on how to improve. This feedback is largely provided through prompting questions to challenge them to think more about how and what they intended to communicate. Special notice for Julia and Pia, who did an excellent job at identifying an interpretation for the scene and bringing in specific details to support their claims.

2. Looking Ahead:
• In the coming weeks, we will have our first summative task which will be identical to the task we did for the formative in that students will analyze a film clip and provide an interpretation for the significance of the scene within the film and discuss how film techniques are being used to develop that interpretation. After we have reached a point of being able to discuss the importance of particular techniques, we will shift our focus to examining film criticism and the subtle ways that film reviews use this kind of commentary to discuss films.
