I hope this message finds you well as we settle into the new school year. The music department is off to a fantastic start, and I’d like to share an update on what our students are working on.
In 7th grade, our students have officially embarked on their exciting unit on music for video games. They are now in the process of choosing their individual songs for the performance component, which will be an excellent opportunity for them to apply what they’ve learned creatively.
Our 8th-grade students have begun their deep dive into the Blues, exploring its rich history and identifying its main characteristics as a sociocultural expression.
In 10th grade, we have started our exploration of Jazz, a vibrant and complex genre. Students are already immersed in the study of its key concepts and have begun practicing an individual song, which will help them develop their improvisational skills.
In these two weeks I have witnessed great willingness from the students, and they are excited to take part in this journey.
