Happy Thursday Roblox Families,

What a wonderful second week it has been in Grade 2! The students have settled beautifully into our routines and continue to show curiosity, kindness, and enthusiasm for learning.

Week 2 photos

This week, we:

  • Took our first steps into our Unit of Inquiry Who We Are by asking questions about what makes each of us unique and how our actions affect our classroom community. We will begin a culture collage  next week Monday. Students will be brainstorming ideas such as their flag, clothing, food, dance, music, instruments, famous landmarks, and other traditions that make their culture special.

  • We also introduced the Shoebox Autobiography home Project, which will give each student the chance to share more about themselves, their families, and their traditions with the class.

  • Launched our Reading Journals and practiced recording our thinking about books. We also started exploring fables with The Tortoise and the Hare. Students completed a comprehension. Please do feel free to share with your child any fables you grew up with, that could be a fantastic whole class discussion to have.

  • In Writing, we continued building routines and will soon begin our baseline writing assessment (a recount about the long weekend). Students will first complete a graphic organizer (who, when, where, what) and then draft their writing on lined paper.

  • In Math, we explored patterns and problem-solving through hands-on activities. Anyone who has passed level 3 will be tested at level 4 next week.

  • Continued building our classroom community through team-building games and reflective discussions about our essential agreements.

Looking ahead, we will:

  • Continue adding/building our inquiry wall with student questions.

  • Be diving into bar graphs, ordering numbers, and comparing with greater than/less than/equal. Students completed their numbers assessment (levels 1–3).

  • Dive deeper into our culture unit and complete our collages (which we hope to share soon on Seesaw).

  • Begin our PM Reading Assessments, each student will read one-on-one with me over the next two weeks.

Reminders:

  • Please send your child to school with headphones if you have not already.
