Dear Parents,

  • G10 wrapped up their diagnostic and jumped straight into the big question, what is health? We teased apart empathy, sympathy, and compassion, and connected these to the Social and Self-management ATL skills like “practising empathy” and “positive self-talk”. The class was thoughtful and engaged, and next we’ll be looking at what factors can hurt mental health, building on what we’ve already started.
  • G9 set off on a grammar and vocabulary journey with Criterion D i & ii, adding colour with BANGS adjectives. Their curiosity and energy made it a joy to teach. Next week we hit the fun challenge of packing the suitcase, deciding together what should go in and what absolutely shouldn’t.
  • G8 became infographic experts, analysing every convention with an eye for detail and working through Criterion B ii. It was challenging but crucial, and they can now confidently explain what hobbies are most popular for their age group. Next step, a playful debate: to do or to play, that is the question!
  • G7 tied grammar to our unit theme of Identity, using venir and prepositions to talk about where we come from. More importantly, they linked this to being caring and open-minded, reminding us that collaboration across gender and origin makes us stronger. A thoughtful start to the year…
  • DP went deep into Languages and Identity, raising TOK-style questions such as: If someone is born deaf, in what language do they think? Do the languages we speak shape our identity and the way we see the world, and to what extent? Next week, they’ll channel these reflections into a Paper 1 written task.
  • It was also wonderful seeing so many of you at school this week. Thank you for making the time to meet me, share your questions, and help build this community together.

It’s been a rich, exciting week. The students’ (and parents’!) curiosity, energy, and willingness to explore have set the tone beautifully for the learning ahead.

Warm wishes,
Miss J
