The second week is complete!! Students have been busy working on spelling, phonics, reading, and of course writing. We had our first spelling test this Thursday. The students completed a story map about The Tortoise and the Hare. They were introduced to the author, illustrator, characters, setting, problem, and solution. We will be specifically focusing on fables for reading during this UOI. Please share with your child fables that you grew up with.
Unit of Inquiry, Who We Are began with a culture collage. We are in the draft form coming up with ideas of what we want to add to our collages. Ideas to discuss with your child is to include your flag, clothing that is specific to your country, food, dance, music, instruments, famous landmarks, and anything that you believe makes your country’s culture unique.
For math we have been looking at bar graphs, ordering numbers, greater than, less than, and equal. We completed our numbers assessment from levels 1-3. This weekend I will be looking at those. Any student who has passed level 3 will be tested next week at level 4.
Next week we will have our baseline writing test. The genre is recount. The students will write about what they did this three day weekend. They will be asked to write about one of the three days. They will begin on Monday with completing a graphic organizer. They will be asked when, who, where, and what. On Tuesday they will write their recount on lined paper. We will also begin our PM reading assessments. Each student will read to me one on one. This will, most likely, take two weeks to complete. I will happily share results if asked.
In UOI we will focus on culture. We will look at how culture looks and sounds different in other cultures around the world. We will be completing our culture collages and hopefully sharing those with you on Seesaw.
PLEASE SEND YOUR CHILD TO SCHOOL WITH HEADPHONES, IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY.
