Welcome back! I am thrilled to welcome our students to what promises to be another exciting year in music. We have some wonderful projects and units planned that will challenge our students and help them grow as musicians and critical thinkers.

In 7th grade, we are going to embark on a fascinating journey into the world of music for video games. Students will learn about the role of music in gaming and will have the opportunity to both study and compose their own pieces.

Our 8th-grade students will be diving deep into the history and cultural significance of the Blues. This unit will explore the genre as a powerful form of sociocultural expression, connecting musical elements to historical and social contexts.

For 9th grade, students started the year in Visual Arts and will transition to music in the second semester. We look forward to welcoming them and beginning our musical exploration then.

In 10th grade, we are starting the year with a rich exploration of Jazz, learning about its origins, key figures, and the improvisational skills that define this genre.

Along with these exciting units, all students will continue to explore a chosen instrument and work towards our traditional winter and summer concerts. We are already looking forward to their incredible performances.

Thank you for your continued support, and I can’t wait to see what this year brings!
