On Sunday, students arrived excited, shy, happy or nervous for their first day in Grade 1 but soon joined together to play, draw, talk and get to know each other. It is a very busy time but such an important week of learning new routines, spaces and faces!
By the second day, we started to establish a learning routine. Students were encouraged to look at our visual timetable in the morning to help them understand the day ahead. They are already learning sounds, numbers, writing and speaking in English: many already have knowledge and are helping their friends! They have met their Arabic teachers, know the different groups and where their classes are. Everyone enjoyed their Specialist lessons this week and helped new friends in these activities too.
We are working towards class agreements that help develop our thinking, behaviour and self- management skills. These agreements should support us to establish a positive and happy environment to learn in and is vital for moving ahead with learning and promoting safe, cooperative relationships with peers.
Next week, we welcome all parents to a Grade 1 Parents Evening to meet the teachers, find out all about Grade 1 and be able to ask questions whilst visiting the classrooms. The meeting is on Tuesday 2nd September and starts at 5pm. Another important reminder for next week is the start of swimming lessons. We will provide information for this on our weekly Newsletter- posted on Sunday morning every week on SEESAW. Please log in to this app for all communication!
I am looking forward to a fantastic year and cannot wait to see this class growing and learning together! Myself and my assistant, Ms Asma will look forward to meeting you and updating you on your child’s progress.
Kind regards
Ms Sian
