This week we have been rehearsing for our Spring Concert, the students have been working very hard on honing their playing and singing skills and developing their presentation skills. We hope you enjoyed the concert!
The students have finished up their complex machines and tested them. Their demonstrations showed whether their two or more simple machines worked together and if the teams were able to explain the function of their machine and if it solved a problem. They have also assessed themselves against the rubric.
In maths, we have continued working on time, consolidating our knowledge of hour and half-hour and moving into quarter past, quarter to and reading and writing time to 5-minute intervals with analog and digital clocks. We have played some games to enhance our learning, especially with respects to which hour belongs to a set time. The students have made their own clocks and taken them home – please check their bags! You can quiz your child on the hour and half-hour using their own made clocks.
For literacy this week, we practised learning new words using our phonics knowledge and have met in reading groups to discuss our reading books. The students also continued writing the instructions for their complex machine.
Next week we begin a new unit of inquiry: How we express ourselves
Please see information here.
We will continue working on time next week, consolidating our understanding of using 5 minutes segments to tell time and then looking at the duration of time.
Our writing will begin to focus on personal narratives. We will read books with recounts of personal experiences, then retell those to gain an understanding of the features of a personal narratives. The students will begin to draft a piece of writing which recounts an day at the beach, from there, we will begin editing through peer and self assessments.
Please note that to celebrate the end of Grade 2 we will have a pool party on Monday, 16th June in the morning during the student’s PE time. We will send out a reminder in the future; however, we want to ensure that you and your child has this information now. On the day, students will need their swimming kit and come to school wearing sunscreen.
