Busy times in Grade 6! We still have so much to do, yet the days are ticking down at an alarmingly quick speed. Especially with the slightly longer (than expected) Eid Al Adhaa holiday. We have spoken a lot as a grade level about the importance of finishing strong. We are collectively determined to enjoy and make the most out of every remaining session.Literacy

We have been finishing our Ted Talk drafts on paper – which included all 8 key features of this style speech. Then we added our drafts to a google doc, asked peers for feedback and then for AI (Poe – below are some of the prompts we have been using) to evaluate our work. Some really interesting speeches are being created. You can see more about them on your child’s Seesaw this week. Also, your child will be bringing home their speeches in the coming days, so please support them by helping them learn their lines.

Maths

We have been looking at patterns and creating formulas that can predict the nth term in a sequence. Most of these formulas (like below) involve 2 operations and are expressed using algebraic terms. This is a very new concept for most of the students and will be a very useful skill for them as they enter the MYP.

Next Week

Literacy

  • Practicing our presentation skills and how we use our body language, our voices and our movements to help tell a persuasive story. This will conclude in the Ted talks on Wednesday. These will be recorded and share on Seesaw at the end of next week. Also, some of the Ted Talks will be selected (by the students) to also be shared at the G6 Graduation event and possibly at the final assembly of the year too.

Maths

  • Creating our own multi-step algebraic problems.
  • Mental maths
  • Revisiting our pre assessments for our patterns and sequences stand alone unit

MOST IMPORTANT DATE OF THE YEAR!

Grade 6 GraduationMonday June 16th – 8.15-9am – the Mazoon. PLEASE do whatever you can to make sure that you are here for this special event. The students are working so hard to make this a very memorable event. It would be very sad for them if we don’t have a large family turnout. Please also make sure you have sent a photo of your child (from when they were babies or toddlers) to Ms Meerah.

Other Upcoming Dates

  • Ted Talks – Wednesday 4th June – students will be presenting their speeches (they will be shared on Seesaw).
  • Secondary Sessions – Tuesday 10th June – G6 students will be given opportunities throughout the day to visit and meet Secondary teachers and work spaces.
  • G3-G6 Summer Concert – Thursday 12th June, 12-1pm – the Mazoon – Parents are welcome to attend.

Have a great long weekend,

Matt
