Thank you so much for attending the Summer Concert. The students really enjoyed having their parents watch all their hard work come to fruition. I really do appreciate the support.
This week we concluded the Unit of Inquiry, How the World Works. The students started the week by completing their complex machine procedural writing text, if they did not finish last week. As a class we went through a slide show of vocabulary, while students read out loud the definitions. It was great to see so many students participate in this activity. The students completed a puzzle sort with all eleven vocabulary words from the slide show. The puzzle pieces consisted of a word, a picture, and the definition. As groups finished the puzzle sorts they completed two words from the vocabulary on an A3 paper showcasing the Frayer Model. This is where students write the definition, a sentence using the word, examples, and they draw a picture. The groups did a great job. We finished the unit by completing an end of the unit reflection. Next week we will begin the last Unit of Inquiry, How We Express Ourselves. Please look below for the unit flyer.
In English we reviewed suffixes and introduced prefixes. The prefixes are un-, dis-, mis-, and non-. Please ask your child if they can use these prefixes in a word. Supporting the learning at home creates a deeper conceptual understanding. We completed our procedural text writing task. Next week we will review closed syllables, prefixes, and suffixes. We will learn about the silent e. In writing we will focus on narrative writing. The students will write a narrative text before the end of the school year.
In math we are focusing on time. We looked at o’clock, half past, quarter past, and a quarter to. The students have been introduced to the numbers associated with these terms, which are :00, :15, :30, and :45. Next week we will continue working with time and introduce five minute intervals. At the end of the week I will check for understanding.
