An extremely hot, yet busy week in Grade 6. I think a local media source said that we hit 47.1 degrees in Sohar earlier this week. So, please ensure your child has a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle. The students are still going outside (to shaded areas) at break from 10 – 10.20am. At lunchtimes children are inside though as temperatures reach their peak, either in the Mazoon or the classroom area.
This Week…
New Unit
We have begun unpacking our final unit of inquiry of the year. it is a great unit that allows for lots of student reflection upon their own learning journey and their own growth. It will also be a unit that allows them to organise a smooth transition into Secondary, say goodbye to Primary, plan their own Graduation and create (and present) their own Ted Talk. So a hugely busy final few weeks. I am a big believer in going strong until the end of the academic year and that will be the case in Grade 6 this year.
Obituaries
As a fun provocative activity this week, we also looked at what kind of lives we like to live and how (at the end of our lives) would like to be remembered. What would be our legacies be and what ways might our lives influence others? Please see your child’s seesaw to read their work.
Harry Potter
As a final class book we are heading to Hogwarts for our read aloud. The twist being that it will not just be me speaking, but each student will take on different characters and voices. So it is a very interactive and engaging experience with students following along with their own copies of the book, an online PDF or following on the TV screen.

Open Morning
There is an optional Grade 6 open morning on Monday 12th May between 8 and 9.20am. If you want to attend it will be from 8.00am-8.40am in the G6 space, then from 8.40am to 9.20am it will either be French or Islamic studies. There will then be the opportunity for tea / coffee and a debrief after this in LC3. This is optional and just a chance for a small lens into the G6 world for those who are interested.
