Grade 5 has had a busy week focusing on wrapping up our unit of inquiry and preparing for our art gallery celebration of learning. Students finished editing their photographs and did some peer feedback to get some ideas if their photographs were making viewers feel the way they had planned. In literacy, students had time to focus on peer reviewing each other’s artist statements, highlighting any errors, saying one thing they liked and giving one suggestion for improvement. In maths we worked on comparing and ordering fractions. Students learned key vocabulary of ascending, from least to greatest (increasing), and descending, from greatest to least (decreasing).

You can find more photos from the week here.

Upcoming Dates:

  • Sunday 4th May – Grade 5 Learning Celebration 2:15pm (Invitation here)
  • Sunday 4th May- Grade 5 WIDA Testing starts
  • Thursday, 22nd May: G3-G6 Assembly (12:15-1:00 pm)
  • Thursday, 12th June: G3-G6 Summer Concert (12:00-1:00 pm)

Looking Forward:

Next week, students are excited to share their photography portfolios with family and other classes at ABIS. Be sure to come and support your child from 2:15-3pm in our learning space on Sunday! Students will make generalisations of the unit by forming a headline of the big idea. In maths we will continue to focus on comparing and ordering fractions before looking at converting fractions to decimals and percentages. We will also begin our last unit of inquiry of the year- How We Organise Ourselves- with the central idea: The choices we make about growing and buying food can help or harm the environment. In literacy we will start to introduce students to research supported debates. A unit overview will be shared with you next week.

Wishing you all a wonderful long weekend!

Warm wishes, Grade 5 Team!
