Grade 8 students recently wrapped up an exciting Art Deco unit that combined history, design, and hands-on creativity. Inspired by their research into Art Deco architecture and design, students created bold movie posters that became the blueprint for their first-ever ceramic relief sculptures.

Using carving and modeling techniques, they transformed 2D poster designs into striking clay artworks—each telling a story through geometric form, dramatic composition, and period-inspired style.

For many, this was a first experience with clay, and the results show impressive creativity and growing technical skill. The project encouraged students to connect past and present, turning vintage design into personal expression.
