It was a pleasure to share our classroom and learning with you this week at Student Led Conferences. We hope you found your Guides to be knowledgeable and great communicators as they shared their personal learning journeys with you. Thank you so much to everyone who came along.
This week was Book Week and there were many activities taking place! Grade 5 participated in Reading Buddies with our younger students this week, which was greatly enjoyed by everyone. There were various other activities going on in school such as Book Swap, Find Wally/Waldo, then the week was rounded off with Book Character Day and a costume parade that took place at a special end of Book Week Assembly. So many great costumes! Thank you students and parents.
In Maths, students focused on equivalent fractions, in particular that fractions can be written in many different ways, but still have the same value. Students learned that when changing equivalent fractions to have a common denominator to make number operations easier, the golden rule is that whatever you do to the numerator (top), you must do to the denominator (bottom). We also had lots of hands on fractions fun this week as we tried out and played a variety of fractions games to consolidate learning in preparation for Student Led Conferences.
During UOI, students were hard at work planning, taking and editing photos to add to their portfolios. We are very excited to invite you all to our Learning Celebration on Sunday May 4th to view the hard work our Grade 5 photographers have put into learning new techniques for photography, and thinking about the message they want to share with their audience when sharing their portfolio.
In literacy, students worked on adding details to their artist statements, and were also focused on the importance of peer review, and how to write feedback in a constructive manner which will allow others to make their work even better. They had the opportunity to peer review the artist statements that Grade 6 wrote as part of their PYP Exhibition this year. They also had the opportunity to pick out some great language and phrases that will be helpful to them as they revise and edit their own statements.
Please find more photos from the week here.
