Grade 8 students recently explored the bold and stylish world of Art Deco by designing a movie poster that served as a blueprint for a bas relief clay sculpture.
They began by researching Art Deco in architecture, furniture, jewellery, and pattern design. Using art vocabulary, students analyzed visual elements such as shape, line, and color, and presented their findings in a visually appealing layout with proper citations.

Next, they designed a poster for a film of their choice, incorporating:

  • A bold title
  • Geometric shapes
  • A central image from the movie
  • Art Deco-inspired color and layout
  • A clear message or mood

These posters became blueprints for their final clay relief sculptures, where they brought their ideas to life using carving and modeling techniques.

The project combined art history, design thinking, and hands-on creativity, encouraging students to connect historical styles with present-day storytelling.
