It was so good to see so many of you at our ABIS Community Iftar on Wednesday!
In UOI students were focused on answering their inquiry questions related to their chosen ecosystem and animal. They also had a lesson with Ms. Mary Ann who shared the key points of taking action which is at the heart of an IB education. Following on from this students brainstormed in groups as to how they could find ways to take action based on their learning during this unit of inquiry. Most students went on to create a website so that they could choose how they want to share their learning with others.
In literacy this week students concentrated on learning about, and creating, diamante poems and concrete poems. There was a lot of creativity happening within the classroom and some beautiful poems were written and published.
In Maths, students investigated the properties of 3D shapes and were able to categorise them based on the number of faces, edges, and vertices. They also explored the concept of creating 3D shapes of their own from 2D nets to be able to visualise their shapes from all angles. They then went off on a 3D shape hunt around the campus, where they had to find a variety of 3D shapes and write about their properties.
Photos from the week can be found here.
Upcoming Dates:
- To Be Confirmed: Eid Al Fitr
- Wednesday 2nd and Thursday 3rd April: No School (Staff Professional Development Days)
Looking Forward:
Next week in maths, students will be wrapping up their unit on Shape and Space with some work on ratios. In Literacy students will be challenged to create their own poetry using any topic or style. They will also have the opportunity to listen to some poetry that has been created by Grade 7 students, and to share their favourite poems too. In UOI students will be reflecting on the learning that has taken place for them during this unit, and what new understandings they now have of the world around them.
Wishing you a blessed final week of Ramadan for those observing the Holy Month.
Best wishes, Grade 5 Team!
