Students of 2A had a busy week. November 10th we attended the book fair. Students were able to pick and choose books to purchase and take home. Hopefully you were all able to visit after school with your children. Yesterday we celebrated Kindness Day. The students wrote notes for another student giving them compliments and delivering those compliments to each other.

Throughout the week we have been working on our Haiku poems. Most students are writing their final drafts. I can’t wait for them to share them on SeeSaw. Our 6 + 1 Traits of Writing is coming along. Last week we looked at topics and capitalization. This week we have started looking at details and compound words. We will continue these topics next week for our writing sessions. For grammar I will be introducing adjectives and that will continue until the long holiday break. We will also continue reviewing nouns and verbs simultaneously.

During math we have been focusing on addition, 2D shapes, and 3D shapes. Students completed a 2D shapes activity where they had to cut out the shapes and put them in order from least to greatest based on the number of sides the shapes had. Students always enjoy cutting and gluing. It is a great way to work on their fine motor skills. They looked at understanding numbers four different ways; numeral, place value, expanded form, and using base-ten blocks. Understanding what a number represents is key in skills such as addition and subtraction. We will continue these skills next week.

The Unit of Inquiry; How We Organize Ourselves will be coming to an end soon. Students will be actively working on their Community Space Design Project next week. Students will work in groups of three. They will create a community space that can help people feel better, stay healthy, and make friends. Their design should include natural things like plants, trees, and water to make a space that feels comfortable and happy. The space will allow different groups to come together and do different activities. The design should be very creative and have things that will make people feel good. Please discuss these descriptions of their space as these are included in the rubric.
