This week our students learned about Service as Action.
In the International Baccalaureate (IB) program, Service as Action (often part of CAS—Creativity, Activity, Service) encourages students to engage in meaningful community service as a way of developing their personal and social responsibility.
This component focuses on fostering empathy, global awareness, and a commitment to making a positive difference. Through service projects, students actively contribute to their local or global communities by addressing real needs. These can include initiatives like volunteering at local shelters, organizing environmental clean-up drives, teaching underprivileged children, or starting social justice campaigns.
Service activities in the IB are student-driven, meaning learners often identify areas of need, plan their actions, and reflect on the impact of their contributions. The process emphasizes growth through experiences and reflection, with the aim of developing responsible global citizens who are aware of their capacity to influence the world around them.
This emphasis on action reinforces the IB’s mission to nurture compassionate individuals who engage with issues of global significance, promoting lifelong learning and ethical leadership.
