Opinions are easy, we all have them, and many of us love sharing them. However, as Grade 5 students discovered during this unit, opinion writing is HARD! When your opinions needs to be supported by evidence that you find through research, it becomes VERY difficult. Grade 5 students did an admirable job of trying to find some evidence to back up their thesis about why their specific topic related to Space should receive funding from the ‘G5 government’ to be researched further. In teams they will pull together their main points to make a Dragon’s Den/Shark Tank pitch to the panel, to see which group will give the most persuasive presentation.
Students also tackled dividing decimals with a remainder using place value understanding and the long division algorithm. To be truly successful and confident with this number operation, students need to have a quick recall of multiplication facts. This is an area that many students need to focus on and improve moving forward. Please help them to learn their multiplication tables!
One of the fun activities we had during Unit of Inquiry this week was exploring the Grade 5 Planetarium! You will have a chance to explore this for yourself during out upcoming Student Led Conferences whic will take place in March.
We wish you all a relaxing long weekend and happy packing for the Muscat trip! A reminder that all big bags (with clothes etc.) MUST be brought to school on Sunday so that they can be pre-loaded onto the bus for us, ready to leave ABIS at 8am on Monday 12th February.
Best wishes, Miss Rachel & Ms. Khadija
