It’s hard to become an expert on everything, but a great cooperative learning strategy is when students each take a part of a whole and become an expert on one aspect of a topic, then share what they know with the others. That’s what Grade 5 students did to share their learning about our Solar System, and thank you to those of you who came along to today’s assembly where they all shared a snapshot of their learning.

This week in language we have been learning more about Space, and we also did a deep dive into what the ATL skills look like for us here in Grade 5 as we come to the end of semester one. This will help us with target setting as we look ahead to our goals for semester two. We tried to take the sub skills and paraphrase them into something that we felt was relevant and appropriate for the skills we want to be learning in our classroom.

This week in maths we continued to decompose decimal numbers into unit values by using an area model to multiply decimal fractions by single-digit whole numbers. We also learned how to use estimation to confirm the placement of the decimal point.

We wish you all a restful weekend. Best wishes from Team G5.
