The Grade 7s are starting a new unit looking at connections in culture through the lens of Gamelan music. Gamelan orchestras are a traditional style of music from Indonesia, focusing on different percussive instruments (pitched and not) as well as flutes and gongs.  This unique and beautiful cultural practice is celebrated across religious and ethnic lines and is loved by locals and foreigners alike.  Observing and reflecting on the use and purpose of this art form, the grade 7 students hope to gain a better understanding of what makes a culture and how to share and interact with different cultural elements in an open-minded, respectful, and inquisitive way.
