In grade 2 this week we have busy learning about homes around the world. The students have explored the key concepts: form, causation and connection and linked these to our lines of inquiry. Grade 2 worked together in small groups to discuss, write and draw the relationships they found. We have made observations about a variety of homes around the world, including the materials used to build homes and what shapes are seen on the different homes. Using a library of books, the students have collected facts, questions and what surprised them most.

In literacy, the students have drawn a picture of their own house and then written a description of their home. Some children have written about their homes here in Oman and some have written about their homes in their own countries. We have continued working on our spelling and developing our knowledge of phonics. Over the last week, we have been practising new reading strategies: choosing a ‘just right’ book, reading to self and building our reading stamina.

Our maths has focused on learning the names of 2D shapes and identifying them in the environment around us. The students have practised naming shapes and describing their attributes.

Please have a look on your child’s Seesaw account to see what we have been working on this week.

Please see some photos from our show and tell this morning and of our UOI inquiry activity: 3-2-1, finding 3 facts, 2 suprises and asking 1 question.
