Nutrition and hydration is as critical to athletic success as training and goal setting. With every long (and not easily obtainable) athletic goal I’ve set, I’ve also checked out recipes for the nutrition and hydration necessary to work hard day after day. After some time putting all of these ideas together, taking care of myself and my athletic pursuits became a lifestyle choice. Throughout this unit of inquiry: How We Organize Ourselves, students have inquired into the many facets of food and how simple choices better our lifestyles. They include healthy food choices, animal farming, organic or non-GMO food, vegetarian/vegan diets, nutrition vs. nutritious, and so on.
Students grouped themselves into partnerships or groups of three and G5 teachers formed six groups with five to six members. Everyone will be working cooperatively to plan, shop for, and prepare a meal for themselves and their mentor teachers on June 12, 2023. The teams are Team Shiraa with Mr. Wetzel, Team Checkmate with Mr. Matthew, Team Alpha with Mr. Michael, Team Follow the Frogs with Miss Rachel, Team Flame Kings with Ms. Ahlam, and Team King Pirates with Ms. Khadija. Please inquire with your child(ren) about who they group mates and mentor teachers are.
As we’ve reminded everyone within daily check-ins, please take some time to explore finding, preparing, cooking, and eating main dishes and desserts over the weekend. As important as nutrition and hydration is to our overall health, balance–in the form of rest–is essential too. As exams, year-end assessments, end-of-unit projects, etc. rapidly approach, take some time to relax. Your future self will thank you 🙂 Please take a look at the following photographs of students creating their team names, logos, and chef hats.
