Dear all,

Grade 4 had a wonderful week! Students completed their European Explorer Projects with their partners during our Unit of Inquiry time. Please make sure your child is practicing for their presentation which will be on Sunday. This will be the speaking portion of the project so students should practice speaking about their explorer and be able to tell us basic information about their explorer, what they did, where they went, and why.

Please have your child tell you about what map skills they learned this week in Math class. Have them tell you what are lines of latitude and longitude, coordinates, and what they are used for. Also ask them to tell about the equator and the prime region and how they separate the Earth into hemispheres. Students should be able to tell you lines of latitude help us determine climate zones and lines of longitude time zones. Tell them to explain.

Students have written the beginning and middle of their Narratives this week. Ask your child about the setting, characters, and what the story they are writing is about. Students are working on improving the mechanics of writing and finding voice as writers. Additionally, please encourage our child to continue reading daily on Epic or Raz-Kids. I have seen more children using Raz-Kids lately which is fantastic! As always I appreciate your support.

Have a great weekend!

Mr. Jaymz
