We are at the beginning of two years of learning about the world of chemistry, the behavior of molecules, and the use of chemical thinking and mathematical skills. One of our tasks this week was to determine the empirical formula of a metal oxide. By precisely weighing and carefully reacting to form product, a chemist can use some chemical reaction concepts plus some math to find out the formula of an unknown compound.
