I am very excited this school year over the opportunity to offer DP Global Politics to our Grade 11 students. Interest in the class has been very good and we are well underway with exploring the key concepts related to unit one (Power, Sovereignty, and International Relations). Students have begun engaging with different definitions and understandings of political power (hard power vs. soft power), theoretical foundations for understanding political issues, and analyzing key concepts such as sovereignty and globalization. Additionally, we have examined how different group perspectives impact politics on different scales of analysis (global, regional, national, etc.). The DP Global Politics course fulfills the IB Diploma requirement for Group 3 and culminates in two externally assessed exam papers, a personal engagement activity resulting in a written report (internally assessed), and a Higher Level extension in the form of two video recorded oral presentations for HL students.
