We have had yet another week of fun and engaging inquiry activities and have been able to show our creative sides too. We identified the moon phases for important dates in our lives which was really cool! We made and edited videos using scale measurements of footsteps to show each planet’s distance from the sun. We used scale and ratio to complete a S.T.E.A.M. challenge where we built models or created information posters showing either the diameters of planets or distance from the sun. In Visual Art we used pencil drawing techniques and shading to create a range of Space Art.
In Maths we continued to look at elapsed time and we were challenged by a Whodunnit?? word problem where we had to use time to identify the culprit. We started an inquiry into measurement, scale and ratio as we looked at the sizes of the planets in our solar system and their distances from the sun.
In language we have been exploring sign language, British, American and Arabic and we signed some of our challenging Unit vocabulary. We then inquired into how the planets got their names and discovered that many names come from Greek and Roman Gods and that Greek and Latin are often used to name planets. We created some planet names of our own and gave them descriptions based on the names taken from Greek and Latin.
We wish you all a wonderful weekend.
