Grade 8 are busy engaged with a unit on ecosystems while Grade 7 are doing a unit on Food. Knowledge and facts form the basis of our inquiry into deeper issues requiring critical thinking – such as “why do we study ecosystems?” , “what are sustainable methods of food production that will still provide healthy foods?” Students are encouraged to research topics and reflect more deeply on these ideas. Work in the laboratory shapes our understanding of evidence and conjecture. Final summative tasks include all four criteria: knowledge, inquiry, analysis and application. It is crucial that students master their knowledge by making notes, summarising information from research and completing given tasks (such as lab reports) as these all counts towards grades.
