The DP higher level students are just finishing up reading the Graphic Novel Maus by Art Spiegelman. This text is a memoir of the artist trying to come to terms with and understand his father and what he suffered in Nazi occupied Poland during the second world war.

Part of what we have explored is how we are all, to a certain extent, a product of our lived experiences and that learning someone else’s story takes intention and dedication. To finish out the unit, the students have been tasked with learning more about their own family history.

So be prepared for questions! They have all chosen a relative that they want to know more about and will be conducting interviews. Hopefully, they will come to appreciate a little more where they come from and what shaped their own family.
