It was great to finally meet so many parents face to face at the 3 Way Conferences this week! It is so important that we all work together as a team to ensure your child has a successful year of learning with us here in Grade 5.
After lots of provocations introducing Rube Goldberg machines, the students discovered that the new Unit of Inquiry under the trans-disciplinary theme: How The World Works, will be exploring the central idea that ‘Scientific understanding of forces explains the movement of objects around us.’ In Maths we have been looking at multiplying and dividing whole numbers and decimals by 10s, 100s, thousands and multiples of these figures. The most fun we have had this week has to be when we were establishing the features of good instructional writing as for language during their unit, students will be writing a clear set of instructions that will be easy for anyone to follow.
Some of the instructions (good and bad) that students followed this week included, how to make origami cranes, (we will be exploring the famous book, Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes
Novel by Eleanor Coerr, next week in Language) and how to make a pop-up card. They didn’t give up and even helped each other to follow instructions correctly. There was also some outdoor drama taking place with a set of unknown instructions, which were later discovered to be “How to Scuba Dive”!
We are delighted to announce that ASA’s will be starting soon, the sign up sheet will be shared with parents on Sunday 14th November and ASA’s will commence on Sunday 21st November.
Please also be aware that students will be encouraged to dress up for Oman’s National Day on Thursday 18th November, either in traditional Omani dress or in the colours of the Oman flag.
