Hi everyone,
We may be in the last few weeks of G5 together but we have still been working so hard!
We have been using the UNICEF Kids power up videos for our brain gym each morning https://www.unicefkidpower.org/what-is-kid-power/ . Not only are the videos fun and engaging but each one allows us to score points towards providing food for less fortunate children and we can exchange the points for other causes such as planting trees. Students can also sign up
In Mathematics we have been using Google sheets as a database to sort large amounts of data. We used it to sort a database of suspects to solve mystery clues. Then we used it in reverse to design witness statements that would lead to only 1 culprit.
In Language we read “The Giving Tree,” by Shel Silverstein and reflected how much trees and the Earth give us, and used this to inspire us to write gratitude poems, thinking about all the gifts we receive from trees and the Earth, matched with what action we’d like to take to protect them.
In Unit we have been researching and sharing our knowledge about our living things and the biodiversity of their ecosystem. We have focussed on detailed diagrams, complex food webs, lifecycles and the components of the ecosystem. Next week we’ll be looking at threats and positive action that is happening. We have such a wide range of inquiries : orcas, dolphins, leopards, snow leopards, Ethiopian wolves, blob fish, whale sharks, hawksbill turtles, lions and purple frogs.
Have a wonderful weekend
Ms Deb
