Hello everyone,

This week has been a shorter week but a busy one.

We started the week with International Women’s day and made rosettte cards for the important women in our lives.

In Mathematics we have been building on our knowledge of perimeter and area to explore how algebra and equations can give us a shortcuts to calculate areas and perimeters more quickly. This will help us when we transfer our knowledge and skills to triangles, parallelograms and circles next week. We used the Frayer model to help us define perimeter and regular and irregular polygons.

In Literacy we have been unpacked the “ingredients” authors use in persuasion by reading lots of texts to give us ideas – we looked at the FORM (What is it), its FUNCTION (How it works) and our RESPONSIBILITY as writers. We brainstormed arguments for and against having mobile phones in primary and having class pets. We have also been looking at parody in stories and how authors can change our impression of characters.

In Unit we followed the journey of chocolate from field to plate – looking at its journey and the processes it goes through from bean to bar! We are encouraging students to photograph food when they can see where it originated.

Enjoy your weekend

Ms Deb
