Dear Families,

This week students across Primary celebrated their Mother Tongues, that is their first languages.  Many students asked, “What do I do if I have more than one first language?” Children at ABIS are multi-lingual, and while most speak some English and Arabic, many others speak 3rd, 4th or even 5th languages! Students shared and celebrated this with each other through various speaking and writing activities throughout the week.

We are proud of the fact that we have successfully completed face to face schooling from January with no known cases of Covid in our school community. This is a testament to: parents, for supporting ABIS protocols; teachers, for enforcing safety practices on a daily basis, and students, for adapting to their surroundings and finding ways to play and learn together safely. We are grateful to everyone for their consistent efforts in keeping our ABIS family safe, and we look forward to continued success in this area.

While we cannot currently travel outside of the country, we still have the freedom to travel and explore within Oman.  If you and your family are taking a trip during the upcoming break, please continue to keep yourselves safe and protected. If you have been in contact with someone who has Covid, please do not send your child back to school until you are sure that there is no risk.

If you are not traveling outside of Sohar, we do encourage you and your children to get outside and enjoy the weather and the pleasant temperatures of the season. Exercise, read, play a board game, rest and relax together, and treasure the gift of time spent together.

We look forward to welcoming all of you back to campus on Monday, March 8. This is International Women’s Day!  Ms. Margot has been promoting this special day, as we all have special women in our lives that should be honoured and celebrated. Students will read books about strong, successful women and will be encouraged to reflect on important, influential women in their own lives. Talk to your child about this and find out which women they think are special.

Please remember that there is no school for students on Sunday, March 7. Teachers will be at school that day, participating in workshops around the PYP, developing their expertise in conceptual learning, ATLS, and inquiry. We are always happy and grateful as educators for the opportunity to learn new things and collaborate as a team.

Wishing you all a wonderful break! Maeve
