Dear Families,

What a wonderful week it has been here at ABIS!  Everyone was so excited to be back in their classrooms learning and playing with their friends again. Even though we still have Covid safety protocols to follow, the students joy and energy transformed the campus and we are looking forward to this continued enthusiasm as we move through 2021 and towards the end of our first semester of the academic year.

We received some messages from parents this week indicating that their child would join online links due to illness or other reasons.  Please be aware that this is not an option.  Students are back in school face to face, and dropping into previously active online classroom links is not possible.  Homeroom teachers and specialists are not providing blended learning as students are expected to be back in the classrooms. If your child is sick or unable to make it to school for some reason, please contact Ms. Eiman: e.alrisi@abisoman.com for attendance accuracy. If your child needs to be away for an extended period of time, please contact the teacher(s) directly in order to arrange for ways to keep up with the learning through independent work at home.

Some students have needed reminders about social distancing and wearing masks, and teachers are encouraging students to have fun, but always in a safe way that also protects others.  Another reminder needed this week was regarding outdoor play and PE.  Please help your child come prepared for outdoor play with a hat and a refillable water bottle, as well as shoes that are comfortable and safe to run, climb and play in.  This is important for both recess times and for safe PE participation. Students should always wear ABIS clothing, and if your child needs new PE gear, please contact Ms. Zuweina: z.alabdulsalam@abisoman.com

Have you had a chance to check out our ABIS Primary Science Fair?  The link went home to parents today via Newsflash, and is also posted on our website for the ABIS community to enjoy.  The teachers did a fantastic job of putting student learning together in a fun and engaging way, and of course the superstar student scientists showcased their abilities in a variety of fun ways.  Parents, please click on this link (https://abisoman.com/sf2021/) (password : parents) > Click the Visit Button and navigate to the different grades using the tabs at the top of the home page.

Primary Students have been learning about Digital Citizenship during their Information Literacy classes with Ms. Margot.  We are learning about finding balance between screen time and off screen time, respecting privacy to stay safe, being kind and understanding the power of our words online.  Students have used technology more than ever since Covid came into our lives, and it is important for all of us to continue these important discussions with our children.

As always, contact us for any clarifications, and have a wonderful weekend!  Maeve
