Dear Families,

Yesterday ABIS said goodbye to Ms. Simpson, who has been at the school for 7 years.  Her drive and dedication have had a huge impact across the school over the years, and student well being and learning was always at the heart of her work here.  I feel incredibly fortunate to have met Michelle and worked with her over the past few months, and I am very grateful for all the support and guidance she has provided to me as I join the ABIS team.  I look forward to developing and fostering relationships with you and your children as I strive to maintain the high standards set by Michelle.

Many of you heard an announcement this week about Kindergarten being able to return to school.  This is wonderful news and plans are well underway here at ABIS to be ready to receive our youngest learners!  We are still awaiting details and guidelines from the Ministry of Education and parents will be informed when we know more.  As you already know, ABIS learning will be 100% online for the first two weeks after the winter break.  This allows all members of our community to travel and still safely quarantine before returning to school in person in January.  Our fingers are crossed that we will be able to welcome all grades, including kindergarten, back to school for face to face learning on January 17.  Grades KG3, 1 and 2 will return to full days at that stage also.

Today teachers were having a bit of fun together, completing a STEAM challenge as a starting point for our Science Fair preparations. Unit of Inquiry learning is currently focused on science concepts, and students will begin working towards a Covid version of the Science Fair soon.  Details will differ across the grades, but projects and investigations will culminate in a website that will be shared with families once completed in January.

Today you received a Newsflash about individual school photographs being taken next week. There is also a schedule for grades 1-6 online students to come in and have a photo taken. If you have any questions about the process, please email Ms. Eiman: e.alrisi@abisoman.com

We continue to receive more face to face learners each week, which is fantastic.  If you have decided to send your child back to school in person, be sure to let the school know the week prior to be able to start on a Sunday.  Teachers require notice when learning groups are changing, in order to best prepare for continued quality learning.

Have a lovely weekend everybody!

Maeve
