Grade 3 made the most of the short week. We started the week as always with ‘Buzz Groups’ allowing the students to chat about their weekend in preparation for writing. The class were asked to recount what their partner said. This encourages listening skills because they don’t know who will be selected.

Each student in the class has a stick with their name on kept in a pot. When a question is asked I allow a short time to think about the answer by writing on their whiteboards or chatting to their neighbour. A random stick is chosen and that child will answer the question. During the course of the day all students are encouraged to participate. Points are awarded for effort, taking part, good listening and persistence. The class goal is 500 points to be awarded a special reward. We are currently on 395 points.

In our maths lesson we have been telling the time using both an analogue and digital clock. The focus was on telling the time using o’clock and half past the hour. After playing maths bingo using the five times table, students had to match multiples of five to make 60.

We introduced the Unit of Inquiry this week about the Human Body. Students were introduced to Sally the Skeleton, although when they met, her bones were mixed up. The challenge was to put Sally Skeleton together. This was achieved by working as a team making small adjustments along the way. The parts of the skeleton were labeled and recorded in their books.

I hope you have enjoyed the extended weekend. Next weeks Broadcaster post will include photographs of our work on the human body and our new class set up as we welcome more students back to school.
